Another little project Ive had sitting around for a while. Filmed this all with one lens at f-1.8 in Cambridge over one day. Mostly this video is a ‘look how pretty and blurry it is’ deal. Specifically I set my camera to film in the lowest possible contrast, mimicking a RED. This footage is all raw straight off the camera with no recolouring, but i really like this low contrast soft look. As for the second part, well that was also filmed over one night of reckless driving around Cherry Hinton/Fulbourn. What more can I say. www.learningdslrvideo.com First off I gotta say this is one of my favorite tools I have reviewed in a long time and I am not sure B&H is going to get this back from me because I love this thing. StillMotion has talked about the Manfrotto 561BHDV-1 Monopod in many of their videos in the past saying how much they love and use this thing and I would have to agree with them. It is so versatile and so quick to move around and capture shots so much faster than with an normal tripod, I know for sure if I was not using this that I would have missed shots because of setup time or if I tried to handhold the camera it would have been so shakey that the footage would have been unusable. The monopod comes with the fluid head and this thing can go tall much higher than I need at 6′-3″. You can find prices for the monopod here: www.bhphotovideo.com Royalty free music by Premiumbeat.com. Song Liquid Groove. www.premiumbeat.com

Hey there, have you considered “MagicSFXphoto” (search on Google for it)? There you can watch a great free video showing how you can create incredible photos. It helped Daniel to make photos which leave? you with that jaw-dropping-effect any time you take a look at them. Perhaps it will work for you as well…

Ball popping/sticking issue…. On the 561BHDV-1… Sprays, oils and grease only attracted dirt and did not solve the problem. I degreased the ball chamber of all oils and filled up the ball chamber with extra fine graphite powder and I? backed off on the 3 Allen screws just a little. The problem is fixed and I still have the mono pod center stance still working with the weight of the camera. I hope this will help you as it helped me. Also wear gloves as the powder is messy. Dan

Hey Dave, very informative video. I don’t own this monopod, but from other reviews I’ve seen, the “popping” issue is basically due to friction in the ball joint. Apparrently, the friction can be adjusted by loosening three little allen wrench screws near the base. Try it out and see if that helps make the? movement smoother.

    August 4th, 2012 at 15:59 | #46

Thanks for the vid,? it helped me make my mind about purchasing this.

One question, what are the rubber bands in the handle for? I know they use it in tripods to make pans a tilts smoother, but I can’t see how could you use it with a monopod :-)

I own? a 560b1 and iam very happy the fluid head also is great and the moves does not remind at all a monopod!!!this kind of monopods in my opinion is for light dslrs in videography!!!articulate screen is recomended!if you want to put a heavier body like mark iv with a heavy lens it works like a clasic monopod and better and its usable like all the others..heavy body make this an excelent monoppod for photo, light body and you upgrade your video work!!

wd40 tends to evaporate/dry out again pretty quick though, it’s more for cleaning than long-term lubrication. It’s better to use a very thin oil, like the old-fashioned ‘sowing-machine’ type oil – it will do? a better job in the long run.
